When you are looking for heating, cooling or plumbing services from Service Experts Heating, Air Conditioning & Plumbing, you will handle the trip charge and a diagnostic fee independently. A number of companies you’ve hired in the past may have combined the trip charge and diagnostic fee, but we feel we can provide you with better value by separating them.
A trip charge covers the cost for a qualified plumber or HVAC technician to visit your home. Often called a service call fee, this charge is the standard rate for sending our technicians, equipment and expertise to your doorstep. If you would like to avoid trip charges in the future, you can explore registering for one of our membership programs.
The diagnostic fee pays for the services needed to locate the root cause of a problem. With plumbing, this can include scoping. In HVAC repairs, it might involve inspecting the inside of your unit. If you elect to use Service Experts Heating, Air Conditioning & Plumbing for the repairs, the diagnostic fee would be rolled into the repair costs. That said, you are charged for the diagnostic services alone if you don’t.
In general, a trip fee includes sending the plumber or HVAC technician to your home, while the diagnostic fee addresses all the work involved in evaluating the issue and working up a plan for repairs. If you are paying for repairs, you shouldn’t notice the diagnostic fee because it’s included with the cost of the repairs.
Some other plumbers and HVAC companies charge a single fee for both the trip and the diagnostics. Instead of charging you for two services at once, we opt for two distinct fees. This allows us to price our services in the fairest achievable manner.
