Here's What to Do When Your Furnace Won't Ignite

February 23, 2017

We are trudging through the last of the weeks of winter but we still have to have our furnaces, especially during cool nights. There’s not a lot that is worse than turning in at night just to realize your furnace won’t start up. If you find yourself in this situation, here are a couple things you can check yourself before your call Teays Valley Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning.

Check Air Filters

You should change standard air filters every 30 days. If you do not, they can end up clogged, blocking air flow and resulting in a furnace malfunction.

Check Your Thermostat

Start by turning the thermostat up a few degrees to get the furnace to turn on. If the true room temperature is higher than the thermostat, the heating system won’t turn on. Also, make sure the system switch is on “heat” or “auto.”

Check the Power

It may seem obvious, but make sure the power switch next to the heating system is “On.” Even gas heating equipment uses electricity so confirm the breaker has not tripped and that the power switch was not accidently moved to the “Off” position.

If you inspect all these things and your heating system will still not kick on, give Teays Valley Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning a call at 304-760-5088 and we’ll come out and get you heating again as soon as possible.
